About Chris Maris

I was born up north to artist parents, and blew my first college grant cheque on a Super8 camera. I proceeded to get a place at the Royal College of Art film school in London and later studied cinematography at the VGIK film school in Moscow.

Since then, my career has taken me across the world, shooting in India, Sweden, USA, Russia, Ukraine. Belarus, Spain, France, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, UK, Ireland, Columbia, Poland and the Netherlands on features, documentaries, animations and commercials.

I shot Sweden's first vampire film; Frostbite, Wake Wood for Hammer House of Horror, starring Timothy Spall, Aidan Gillen and Eva Birthistle, and the highly acclaimed Russian TV series Chernobyl – Exclusion Zone. I have just completed a WW2 film in Minsk starring Ed Westwick, Tom Wisdom and John Hannah.

I have recently teamed up with animator Cadi Catlow to form the creative partership Mushroom Rain, where I like to trigger her trypophobia as we discuss camels and Punch & Judy shows over tea and crumpets.
